How Much Do We Really Know About WWII
So many times a WWII military member brought so much more to the table . . .
Today I am sharing some thoughts I have on our knowledge of World War II history. I’m not sure if I am wrong or right but just a heads up that this post is a bit different than my normal posts.
Researching World War II or any period of history involves a constant reevaluation of what we really know compared to what we thought we knew. As I sat and stared out the window after seven plus hours of reading and searching original WWII documents, I was left with the distinct impression that the scope of WWII is just too big to know and ever truly master. Perhaps that is the beauty of researching and extending our knowledge base, we intrinsically understand that a headline and five paragraph article summarizing an event, decision etc. is pretty much worthless in terms of actually providing accurate critical analysis, instead it is a surface glance. True mastery takes so much more in time and resources.
